An alarm system comprises several components that are designed to detect intrusion.  Circuit breaker sensors are placed on doors and windows.  When the alarm is armed, it will sound when any of the circuits are broken through the opening of a door or window.  Glass break sensors are useful for detecting forced entry through a window where the circuit breaker may not be activated. 

Inside the home motion-detecting sensors are fitted in all the living spaces to detect either movement or body heat.  The whole house can be armed when you leave; however, when you sleep in it at night, the bedroom areas may remain inactive while the rest of the house is armed.  This leaves the bedrooms vulnerable, so it is recommended that you have motion-detecting sensors in your garden in front of the bedroom windows that detects an intruder that attempts to bypass the alarm system by breaking in where the alarm is not active.
