Intruder detection starts with proper perimeter security.  Here, a good electric fence is invaluable and an effective deterrent.  The fence should be high enough to present a proper obstruction and the highest voltage allowed by law should be used if it is going to have the desired effect.  An electric fence is effectively bolstered by a CCTV system, although this requires staff to man the monitor feeds.  A CCTV system may comprise several cameras strategically located on the property, broadcasting to monitors on their network that are situated in the control room, where guards keep an eye on the feeds.

Motion sensors located in the garden may also prove very effective and they should be placed strategically in funnel areas that lead up to the house and through which intruders would have to pass if they wished to break into the house.  These could be linked to an audible or silent alarm to alert you and/or the armed response company.  Of course, the last line of defence – and one which we hope you would not have to rely on – is the alarm system in your home to detect unauthorised entry at doors and windows.
